Team Creativity

  • Creativity is ones imagination put to work in real world scenarios. There are different ways in which creativity can be applied to teamwork: Finding creatives ways to solve problems as a team, finding people whose creativity sparks other’s are a few that can be named.
  • Creativity is a combination of brainstorming and executing without preparation.

  • Discuss how creativity is measured.
  • There is no set way to measure creativity, as it can't be goaled or have a score to be graded in. "a person's creativity can only be assessed indirectly (for example with surveys or official external recognition) but it cannot be measured directly." (Piffer, 2012).

  • Identify the four general conceptual domains into which new ideas can be classified.
  • These domains are Creative realism, Conservative realism, Creative idealism & Creative idealism,

  • Discuss threats to team creativity.
  • Creative ideas mean that they might not be proven and leave room for mistakes
A road block is when the managers don’t want people to be creative.
  • When teammates do not want to take into new idea
  • without being flexible without seeing new possibilities of new ideas.

  • Recommend ways teams can enhance creativity.
  • The team could allow for more creativity if it found a benefit for there to be a change.
To build more creativity, it would be good to do team building games.
  • Positive feedback

  • Creativity helps with problem solving in many ways:
  • When there is a problem, what separates the skilled workers from the non skilled is how well they can come up with solutions.
It gives the team a unique perspective.
  • Creativity helps with solutions that are ‘out of the box’ which means that are more realistic.
  • With teamwork everyone comes together with constructive conflict on ideas weighing the pros and cons while establishing an underlying trust.

Sometimes too many ideas cause friction on a team. Strong feelings of someone’s idea not being selected can cause issues in a team environment.

A team should always want each group member to succeed, and although there may be no formal process or policy it should be encouraged for individuals to be open with new ideas and feel free to express their own ways.

Many businesses and corporations have to work within policies and processes that don’t always allow for creativity. Learning to know the boundaries and how far you can push them is always a good thing. Sometimes it can be a creative process of its own to encourage team members to not just accept the rules or view them as hindrances, but to take those rules and work within them and stretch them as far as you can without going against the policy.
